Well, if we consider the effect that the nike ipod foot thing has had on running, that might not be bad, designed right. Folks share their runs with the nike thing, and it can get a wee bit competitive with social pressure (a) to do the run and (b) improve.
so if this becomes a social phenom, it might encourage actually more attention to the workout rather than less, if you can virtually run with or against a buddy.
Also a lot of hotels have tv screens on their gym bikes. When i'm on the road, doing interval work on hotel bikes, i appreciate having a private screen rather than a gym-wide blaring menace, and being able to have something happening that's entertaining to make the time of the grind pass.
