A quick Google on the subject of algae oil reveals interest in it as a biodiesel fuel, also finds it for sale to be applied directly to the skin, and last but not least as part of at least one edible oil product, although the one I found was a mix of flax seed, borage, and algae, the latter being cited as if it was a substitute for fish oil as Comrade mc suggests.

I called the local Whole Foods Market - they said they'd never heard of it.

If I find it, I will try it.
