John Beamon, HKC - the first years

This journal details roughly my first years of active KB training logs. Discussions and training summaries were moved to in the Spring of 2010.

1. 10/28 front squat corrections

by , 10-28-2009 at 04:41 AM (John Beamon, HKC - the first years)
Feel good. Lumbar is pain-free during intentional movements through a wide ROM. Still flinchy with unintentional movement. Muscles tight from working out again yesterday, but a good tight. The only goal today is to loosen up, be mobile, and do front squats without pain. R-phase teaches mobility without pain to correct threat responses. I need to learn front squats without pain for the same reason.

R-phase routine: arms, shoulders, neck, A/P thoracic, ankles, knees, hips.
2. 10/27 Resuming KB workouts

by , 10-27-2009 at 03:41 AM (John Beamon, HKC - the first years)
Resumed a light workout today, mostly to see what movements I can and cannot do with the lower back issue. I can't do front squats.

R-phase routine
5min 12kg TGU alternating sides
10 pumps
10 16kg DL
5 12kg single-leg DL on each side
10 12kg swings (last night, no problems at all)
several mixed C&P on each side, 12kg and 16kg
12kg front squats - caused problem

At the bottom of my front squats, my lower back curls in under me ...

3. 10/26 TGUs, feeling good

by , 10-26-2009 at 04:52 AM (John Beamon, HKC - the first years)
Went to sleep last night with no pain. Got through my R-phase this morning without pain. Did a couple get-ups without aggravating anything. I can tell there's a difference between the sides in the way I rotate at step one. Forcing that will strain my back, so I have a tool to work with over the next couple weeks. No swings until this is perfect.

I didn't have pain until I sat in my office chair. I wonder if I can get a taller desk?
4. 10/23 update (woke with no pain)

by , 10-23-2009 at 07:58 AM (John Beamon, HKC - the first years)
I was in pain again yesterday morning, similar to a week ago when I started Z treatment. I did my prescribed R-phase three times during the day and walked down and back up 6 floors of stairs in my office building at lunch. I got an after-work nap in my regular chair and woke with no pain. None. I could move and swivel, even bend over a little bit. Basically nothing different about my day except it begin in more pain and ended in less pain than usual.

This morning I woke up with ...
5. 10/22 morning

by , 10-22-2009 at 03:51 AM (John Beamon, HKC - the first years)
Right lumbar is hurting again, the same initial area that started all this. Feels like it did a week ago, before I got treatment. I did my R-phase movements three sessions yesterday and was careful about form and being relaxed and pain-free. Not sure what this is anymore.

My left hip still has a pop in it. I can produce it lying on my back and raising that leg and lowering it again. Makes my whole back vibrate, but doesn't actually hurt.
