Default How many calories are we burning?

I have see many websites claiming that certain exercises burn X number of calories per hour (Such as running 8 mph per hour reportedly burns 1038 cal/hr for a person weighing 180-200 lbs.)

Any idea how many calories are burned per hour using some of our beloved kettlebell exersices (the swing in particular).

    Thanks

About 2 calories. No not really but who cares, just do it and enjoy. All I know is it burns more faster than anything I have done. Swing for 10 minutes then ask how many, you wont care you will be trying to hard to recover. That means it must be a lot.

I agree with baederp on this. How many calories are we burning. This question always gets answered with "Who cares?" I do. I'm trying to market these methods to people and I want to speak to them in their language. Anecdotal evidence is harder to sell.

Has anyone tried to use a HR monitor's feature to rougly track calorie expenditure from doing swings? I know it's high, but it'd be nice to ballpark it.

I can appreciate that. Like it or not, it's what people focus on. Even if the information from that elliptical machine is overly optimistic by 30%

I suspect the calories burned during the 'typical' kettlebell workout itself is less than if the same person was doing an 'aerobic' type workout like running due to the stop and start nature of the former. On the other hand, I think, the fat loss effect is stronger with the kettlebell training.

However, this type of thing is hard to market in certain contexts since it's mainly anecdotal as you noted.
