Default The back of a girevik

Hi all,

I've been doing KB for 5-6 months now, and it's amazing how my back has responded to this training.

I used to regularly have lower back pain, not always for a clear reason, sometimes for 3-4 days, which would not cripple me but make every move miserable with pain expectation.

Well, all that has changed. I've been practising snatches, concentrating on the VO2max protocol.

Amazingly, my back pains have become much less frequent, less painful, and shorter.

What's more, I can't help but notice how my back has been litterally transformed: on either side of the spine, a thick tangle of snaky, ropy muscles has developed, going from the top of my buttocks to the shoulder blades, and around to the armpits and neck. They seem so powerful now that I don't recognise myself. And I'm mainly exercising with a 35 pounds KB!
I try to tell this to a lot of people that have the same symptoms as I used to have, but they only see movements that to their eyes will injure their back.

The road to strength is a lonely one: many don't understand what you're doing, or why.

But it won't stop me, for I have seen and felt the results first hand.

great transformation,but get your back checked out with a chiro as well to be on the safe side.

I have never had back problems but my back has really developed great muscle tone since I have converted to kettlebells. I will be 47 next spring and I mainly use my 35lber also. I use the fast ten method for a lot of my training, fast tens seem to cover my endurance, strength and muscle tone goals.

Lots of snatches are also a favorite.

Always great to hear a success story especially when it relates to overcoming low back issues. KB's are amazing tools and I can relate first hand to your low back pain issues.

To make my long story short, ruptured disc=5 months of zero workouts. Disc surgery=5 more weeks of inactivity. Introduction to KB's/ETK + steadfast dedication=the strongest, most resilient back I have ever known.

Like you my back was transformed from a muscular standpoint as well. The only problem I have with my new wide,thick back is the cost associated with buying bigger shirts. Small price to pay and I was able to donate a great deal to the Goodwill in my area.

Keep up the hard work. Snatches rule!! FYI, I agree with ATF that you may want to head to the chiro. I still visit mine for an occasional tune up...Joe

Com. Joe1267, you're right about the shirts: some are getting too small... That's an unexpected side of the KB training, it should be mentioned as "side effect costs" by the instructors

Had I known, I would have set some $$$ aside from day one!!! It's a small price to pay for everything I have gained even though it can be a b**ch to find XXL's in anything other than a t-shirt. Keep working hard and have a great weekend...Joe

I was talking to one of my clients fathers the other day and he said the same thing about his son,that the KB work has done wonders for his back pain.He has no pains anymore.
As a former competitive bodybuilder i can say that KB work has done more for my shoulder and back musculature than when i was bodybuilding.
