Last week I maxed out my deadlift. I am 13 weigh 117lbs, 5'9". I managed one rep with 160lbs. My goal for the end of the year is 225lbs. Is it too ambitious? Is my current max good.
I know I don't have a video to show my form and stuff, but I want feedback on my numbers. O and by the way I've just been training for 3 months.
Your somewhat long term goal is 225. Your current goal is to get 165 to 170 for one rep. Or to increase your 5 rep max by 5 to 10 pounds.
Do not worry about what is ambitious or not.
Especially do not worry about whether 160 for 1 rep is good. 160 for 1 rep is what you can do and that is that. Don't get caught in traps and distractions.
Remember - no one starts by deadlifting 600 on day one and no one reaches their all time records in one training session.
Plan small steps. Hit small records over and over and over again and eventually you are pulling much bigger weights.
But the goal is always 5 to 10 more pounds. Or 1 or 2 more reps.
I agree with mrwhy. If you start letting your ego get in the way and worrying about what is considered strong, you'll end up trying to move forward too fast and possibly hurt yourself. You're only 13 so learn perfect form and work your way up to heavier weights while making sure to listen to your body. You have plenty of time to get strong, I'm talking years. Don't get ahead of yourself.
