The TRX is a fabulous product. I have two: one for home; one at work. Fabulous. Everyone: go get one.
Do i travel with them? No
As an inveterate traveler-by-plane, i have personally found the trx heavy and useless for the carry on bag type trips. Too much space taken up, too heavy, and despite the ads that say they can readily attach to a door, they are certainly sub optimal for this.
Perhaps if you're traveling by car and can throw this in the trunk and have tree or playground, super. maybe.
I've also travelled with bands like the awesome lifelines TNT ( now uk'ers can get these too) where i've been somewhere for awhile and can check bags. super.
But for now about the only thing i travel with is a thin kinda band
to hook onto a door handle to help with pistols or add load to push ups (x across the back).
Mainly i've found that doing body weight workouts - including pistols, one arm push ups, even super slow naked TGU's, hindu sit ups/push ups, duck walks etc are more than ample. Other piece of gear? towel over solid door for pull ups. More upper body work? hand stand type push ups.
Less, at least for me, has v.much become more on the road - which for me road=air.

The hindu pushup looks a lot like upward/downward dog from yoga. It also is not so different from dive bombers. That deck squat is pretty interesting...I don't think I've ever seen that done before.

When working abroad I have used mainly skipping rope and push-ups, and that has kept me in good shape.
Last travel, I also added bands and a wrist-roller. You can use the bands very well as resistance for the wrist-roller but you will have to set it up horisontally.
Otherwise, if you stand on a chair, you can use the wristroller with suitcases or whatever.

There's TONS of stuff to do with just bodyweight and no special equipment necessary. It's good to shake things up from your normal routine and get your body into a different groove altogether for a while. I would look at it as an opportunity rather than a detriment to your overall training.
Bust out 5-10 minutes of 8-count body builders and you'll be good to go. There's so many different things you can do that you shouldn't even worry about it at all.
Oh yeah - almost forgot.. I bought some "Fitdeck" cards that are really cool. They're basically just a deck of cards that each have a different exercise on them. Shuffle them and just do whatever exercise comes next. Every exercise is different, and it keeps things fresh and interesting. The basic deck is called simply "bodyweight". I also bought various different "booster" decks: Yoga, Stretching, Navy Seal, Dumbell, Pullup, Firefighter, and Combat Sports. There's even a Kettlebell one. It's a fun product(s) to have and I like not knowing what's coming next.

Simple, overtrain before trip and rest or do minimum training for 3 weeks.
That is if you have a confident training program or routine that doesn't risk your body by overtraining.
Nothing replaced kettlebells during my trip. Not one.
Past couple years, my only trips were RKC events in St.Paul.

My last long trip I brought along; elite rings, jump rope, and a large duffel bag. I was at the beach so I filled the bag with sand and hung the rings on a tree limb.
Two of my favorite routines from Steve Maxwell's blog are.
1) 12 rounds no breaks;
100 Skip Rope (or 50 Jumping Jacks)
10 6 count Burpees
5 Pull Ups
2) Heavy sandbag, 30 reps each exercise done in order taking breaks as needed;
Clean and Press (bag to ground each rep)
Bear Hug Squats
Bent Over Rows
Shouldering the Sand Bag (alt left/right)
Bag Get-Ups, (Lie down on the floor and put the bag on chest--no hands or elbows--use momentum and scissor-kick up, then do a reverse lunge, stand up, reverse and repeat, switch lunging leg each rep)
An all-out set of Chin-Ups and Hindu Push-Ups for spinal mobility
An all-out set of Full Sit-Ups.
cheers,
rob

Has anyone tried to pack a kettlebell in a bowling bag? My wife has a bag with a shoulder strap that she offered to let me use for my kettlebell. Maybe I can take my KB with me after all.

If all it takes is 3 weeks to get de-conditioned, well, you're needlessly worrying.
