    Talking First Pistols Ever!!

I just did pistols for the first time ever! I have tried them a few times, but the balance was always weird, or I felt like my strength wasn't up to par... On a whim, I grabbed two 25lb dumbbells, and did a smooth pistol with both legs! I can squat around 250 without training it currently (last summer I peaked at 290 for 1 rep PL style squat), and I'm looking forward to my next workout so I can try some pistols with the 28 and 32kg kettlebells at my gym.

Thanks for reading - had to share with someone.

    Congratulations!

I love it when people post their PRs and accomplishments. There is just something so intrinsically empowering about achieving great things with your body, and seeing what you are capable of.

    Keep it up!

Thanks! I'm excited to see what I can do with some specific training for the pistol. I'll post what happens tomorrow at the gym with some heavier weight.

Thanks, Pavel! It was your 5x5 PL program on Tim's site that got me from never lifting to squatting 290 lbs from Dec '08 to June '09. Your Strength Stretching DVD also helped me immensely in learning the three lifts and progressing so far. Thanks again for that article and your great advice in the relevant discussion.

So in the gym today I got down and up with the 28kg, but didn't maintain good form, so i didn't want to try heavier (seems like you can lean forward and not really work too hard to get back on your feet, defeating the purpose of the move). I was able to hold decent form (well what felt like it) with the 24kg. Nothing crazy, but definitely encouraging considering I didn't think I could even do a bodyweight pistol a few days ago! I'm going to start doing a few with the 24kg to practice the move as part of my warmup for a few weeks and see what happens.

Thanks again for the encouragement .
