Kettle Bell Research
I am currently getting my master degree in exercise science. I need to complete a graduate thesis in order to graduate. I am currently a strength and conditioning coach at a facility in scranton, PA. Over the last year I have mainly only trained with kettle bells and love the benefits they provide. I have decided to do my thesis on kettle bells. My title is " Evaluation of Kinematic Variables and Muscle Activation in the One and Two Handed Kettle Bell Swing." I am going to look at peak power output/ joint angles/ muscle activation in those movements. I decided on this topic because of the gains that I have notice just from using kettle bells. After an exhaustive search I barely have an one journal.
My question to everyone on this forum is where can I find research on kettle bells.
Any research ?
Thanks for your time.

I know Pavel and Stuart McGill did some EKG stuff reporting on muscle activation and recruitment on this very subject.
I don't know where you could get the info though.

way to go looking at kb's.
i'm curious how this comparison of muscle activation between kb swings will lead to particular conclusions? will you be comparing the kb swing with anything else? or what do you hope the contribution will be?
kenneth hasn't published the results of any of his research and i think most of it is not written in english, but you might have a convo with him for his methods/results in
comparing swing with depth jumps for v.jump improvement

Thank you for responding. I am going to be comparing it to the weighted squat jump . The variables I am going to be looking at are Peak Power output using a force platform, joint ankles using 3D motion analysis, and muscle activation. There is an immense number of things I can look at but these are the three I decided on for now, for lack of better knowledge . This may not be the best way to be going about my research but I feel like I am shooting in the dark with nothing to go off of , or at least nothing I can find. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Again thank you for responding and any help you can provide.

Dustin:
My immediate question when reading this post is,....... can't you run the experiment yourself with 5 ginea pigs from school?
It would seem you'll actually get much more valuable real world results.

just make sure you measure someone that knows what they are doing. Pavel would have a much different reading then Jillian Micheals because he knows how to do the swing proper and she doesn't
same could be said about average guinea pigs. try to make sure their form is dialed in

Snake, good point but I think Dustin's trying to build his Literature Review by asking for research. Part of the process is showing what prior research has been done on a given subject.
Dustin, if you're able, can you post your results? Would be educational and helpful to see the results.
Thanks.

Also, if you are going to do your own research it is best to find out what others have done first, otherwise you may waste valuable resources repeating a study that has already been done.
