for me, the grip is not so much an issue because I use the so-called "false grip"--tucking my fingers behind the handle except for the bottom of the descent. For me, in sub-freezing weather, the cold steel stings/burns my palm after a few minutes. I wear the same outfit (sleeveless hoody, lacrosse shorts, Olympic lifting shoes) year round. The level of activity does seem to keep me imprevious to the cold, although I must admit that at the most my sets last ten minutes. Then I go back inside for my active recovery.
