Cold Weather Workouts

Ok I feel like a complete idiot/pansy (whichever is appropriate, maybe both) but does anyone have any tips for working out in the cold weather? Yes, its only early November and I live in the Mid-atlantic so clearly it could be worse... and have I mentioned I am pansy? Too much time in the south of france perhaps.

But seriously, today I was doing 15:15 swings w/ my 24kg and I couldn't feel my hands. I have always had bad circulation in my hands too so that doesn't help. I felt like I was more winded during my 14 minutes of work than I ever was in my 40 minutes of VO2 snatching the 16kg so I wanted to take my pulse but I could not as my hands couldn't feel it.

There is no real place for me to train inside right now and I'm ok with toughing out outdoor workouts in sweatclothes, but i dont know what to do about the numbness in my hands (And to a lesser extent toes). should i try, gasp, gloves?

Variation is good. Gloves will change the dynamics of exercise and will *gasp* make your grip stronger. Good stuff, try it out while it's cold.

Start out a bit easier, as its a lot bit harder. :-)

Burpees and/or/with 2 hand swings.

This is a little expensive, but what I did was buy one of those small propane heaters with electric fan. I hook that up and before and in between sets, I set the bell in front of it. It keeps the bell warm and in turn warms my hands.

in winter, I just do not do exercises which require dexterity--i.e., swings & snatches. I focus on jerks and presses. When it drops below freezing, the steel has a bit of a sting to it, but otherwise there is no problem with doing sets in the snow. Although I cannot prove it, magnesium carbonate chalk seems to make my hands warmer. Also good leather lifting shoes are warm.

Put you bell in the oven for a while before you go out. The iron will hold the heat for quite a while.

What happens when you forget like when you do on a batch of cookies (rarely happens in my house I love cookies)

I have a nice 80 sq ft cast iron grill outside, I'll just toss mine on some coals next time it gets cold. All of 2 days per year. Seriously tho, the fingerless sock glove might be something to look at, or some other form of fingerless "wrist warmer".
