The chick is not scrappy and not cool. Cowardly is the only way that her actions can be considered. She was not play tough and hard nosed. Here play was dirty and cheap. It is one thing to play physical, it is another to take liberties with people faces and the backs of the knees.
To the original poster, you seriously must not play any sports if you think there was anything redeeming in her actions. There is nothing redeeming about
:
* Taking someone out at the back of their knee
* Punching someone from behind
* Clubbing someone in the face after the ball was cleared
* Tripping someone after you are clearly beaten
* Kicking a player in the ribs off the ball
* Pulling someones hair.
Cheap and dirty play has no play in competitive intercollegiate athletics. Anyone who thinks this is scrappy and hard nosed does not know anything about sports.
I have practiced and refereed at some high-level games and there was absolutely no excuse for the her to be in the game. The referees were afraid to throw the red card. Absolute incompetence on their end. There are always two referee watching the ball at all times. These referees were scared, plain and simple. They should not be allowed to referee another game at that level. The most important objectives of a referee are to:
* Make sure the game of soccer is played (it wasn't)
* Make sure the safety of the players is preserved (not even close)
