Need help/tips for wife
Hey guys, I need some help. My wife wants to get into shape, but, she isnt very strong (ie. can't do pushups, can't squat till paralell, can't do pullups ie) I was thinking just some static holds or negatives in the pushups and pullups, and just sqaut as low as she can, or some presses and rows with an empty bar. Throw in some med ball tosses, focus mitts, and some kb swings for conditioning, of course walking too.

Do some sort of athletic recreation maybe. Shoot baskets, play horse, hiking with a backpack on etc. The static holds, negatives etc are great. If she's not that into working out make it fun so she'll keep doing it. Training your significant other can be a nightmare since chances are they are not as gung ho as you (and if they are then this rarely comes up at all). Pm etk, sure, but if they aren't into it, their simply not gonna do it in the intensity needed to be productive. I have to say it, a yoga class wont hurt. Getting her aware of her body and doing flexibility exercises will go a long way. Just get her moving in that direction, provide her with options and support(by making it fun) and the workout/ fitness bug will bite. Next thing you know she'll be carying large stones around your backyard, wearing funny shoes with toes on them, and talking $&@^ about supportive gear

I agree with ZKP. At first make it very lighthearted, but understand that since her conditioning and structural levels are low - to make sure to keep the play times low at first. During fun times, most people, don't notice how much they have actually done in terms of "repetitions."
Start with 5 - 10 Minutes the first week and build it up from there. It takes normally one year before most people start becoming chronic exercisers (people that feel the need to exercise - without it they go crazy). Within the time of building up to that year, if they can't associate exercise with something, they'll fail, again and again, normally about 7-12x. Cut that curve down by making it fun. :-)

My gf started working out recently after a long hiatus and couple of kids. She does yoga once in a while and had some lower body strength, but couldn't do a proper pushup or a pullup, or full squat, or a Hindu pushup.
So we both went back to basics about six weeks ago. Back to basics = program minimum (with full warmup, as recommended).
Since starting she's got much stronger, 3-4 pushups, 5 Hindu pushups, full squats, and she's getting stronger by the day, not to mention she's really liking the way her body is shaping. I joined in program minimum because I've never done it, I used kettlebells as a supplement to my regular training in the gym and on the water (somewhat of an athlete, a paddler). I'm really liking it, it's simple and very effective.
So, I'd say do program minimum and as she's getting stronger slowly introduce other exercises, kettlebell and body weight ones...

lol, awesome suggestion, as long as she doesn't get embarrassed by the suggestion.

Thanx for all the tips guys/gals. I was thinking about the PM, but I am rockin away on Wendlers 531 at the moment (I know, I have strayed from the party's ways). She does do swings (not hard yet) but TGU's, she isnt quite getting yet (coordination wise).

Another thing to think about is it might be good for her to have another woman as part of her support and motivation. Silly as it is, sometimes it's a little easier to take advice from someone other than your significant other.
Recently, I just got back into the groove after moving, blah, blah, blah....I'm working on the ROP to help me prepare for the HKC in Jan. If she wants another woman as a supporter, she can contact me. It's always good to have people in your corner...especially when you're 1st starting out!
