Comrad Pavel. I have been using weightlifting belt all my life. I was wondering if I can stop using it. I find it annoying. Will I get hurt if I stop using it? John Mazzuca
I can report that it takes (me at least) a good while for your abs to catch up if you've done as I have which is wear a belt since beginning training. The lowering portion of my DL's feel like 100% abs. The line about DL's being THE best ab exercise is a major understatement.
I agree with what the other two said. Your own abdominal muscles should be your belt. If you were squatting upwards of 90% of your 1RM, then use a belt. Other than that, learn to tense your abs.
