Default DeLorme cycle from "Beyond Bodybuilding": outstanding results!

I have just finished the DeLorme hypertrophy cycle and I have gained 11 kilograms in 8 weeks, no significant increase in bodyfat! I was already a big guy, 135kg at 1.78m tall, and now I weight 146kg! I did conventional DL and Bench press, some very low volume pull-ups and abs in the beginning of the cycle but I dumped any other exercises except the big two soon after the 4th week. I could not up the number of series in the heavy day to 5 or more (I managed a maximum of 4 series), so I had to stay on the same weights for the entire cycle.

I plan a two weeks break and then I would start another DeLorme cycle, Sumo DL and Incline Bench presses.

So, if hypertrophy is your goal, The DeLorme Cycle from Beyond Bodybuilding simply cannot fail if you eat your beef, drink your milk and sleep as you should(actually, I had a some sleeping problems and still grow like a weed)!

Thank you for the "souped up" DeLorme, Comrade Pavel!

Com. RedBoar...just looked this program up in BB. Did you do the 2-week intro?

I've got hypertrophy as a goal for the summer and this looks good as an option. Those are serious gains on your part, for a relatively short program!

Yes, Comrade Pesce, I did the cycle to the letter. Without the 2 week intro, I doubt I would have been able to complete the 6 week main cycle. Now, that I have done it once, after a short break (9-12 days or so) I will try it again, without the 2-week intro. I will keep the interested Comrades informed about how that works, too.

Yes, I think this program is the best we can get for pure hypertrophy. Just remember to eat like a farm animal and be aware you might get some fat. Hope you will have great results too, and feel free to keep us informed about your progress. When I wanted to start a pure hypertrophy program I had trouble finding some reports about progress on DeLorme. Now I spread the propaganda to anyone wanting to listen.

    Power to you!

I don't have BB. I wonder how the DeLorme hypertrophy cycle compares to the bear program in PTTP. Could you describe the basic idea behind the DeLorme hypertrophy cycle?

Comrade Jeff, the idea behind the "souped up" DeLorme cycle from BB is that the quick succession of sets (time enough just to add plates between sets) with (50%, 75%, 100%) of a certain weight (10RM in this case) will "build slabs of beef quicker than you can say moo", which proved to be true. It also incorporates the Heavy-Light-Medium approach.

The Bear protocol is aimed towards strength AND muscle. The DeLorme routine is centered towards muscle mass alone; in fact, at the end of a DeLorme cycle you may be much more muscular but weaker in your 1RM because of the cumulated fatique - just my opinion...

    Power to you!

Great report Red Boar, I may give it a try after I make some progress on CC.

Red Boar, after reading your post on this I pulled out BB from the bookshelf and I will be giving this cycle a go right after I finish my "kettlebell muscle" adventure.

Perhaps I should put in an order for a new wardrobe already.

I'm in...I've needed to work on my BP for a long time and this program pushed me over the line. I did the heavy "intro" day on Friday to see how it felt...hard in a good way. I have also started power eating, something I do not enjoy but will get good at with practice.

One additional comment on Bear vs. DeLorme...the DeLorme waves but has two exercises (BP/DL, or incline bench and DL for Com. RedBoar next time) vs. just DL or SQ for Bear. I wasn't sure about the waving (nice thing about the Bear...drop weight once then repeat until near dead) but I liked moving the weights off and on.

Will report back at the end of August...if I can get anything close to 11kg I will be feeling pretty good. Thanks Com. RedBoar for bringing it up!

    Hi there,
I've just registered on the forum. I've got PTTP and Beyond Bodybuilding. After reading most of the latter I decided the Delorme Cycle was the one I wanted to try. So far I've just done day 1 of the introductory fortnight. Your results are very encouraging.

I've done a lot of bodybuilding in the past and have just returned at aged 46. I've not really known what to do the past five weeks but it's gone okay. Hopefully I can return some similar result especially with muscle memory and all that. Great results Red Boar.

I think I'll be giving this a try as well. It's been a while since I've really experimented, and I'm starting to get the itch.
