    Default high bar squat form check

    i have lower back problems every couple of months, so i want to make double sure, that my form is ok. Thank you and sorry for the weird angle.

    The depth is good. In fact, it's probably lower than necessary. At that depth with heavier weights you are probably going to have issues keeping the lower back flat. That could be a reason why you are having back problems.

    I can't really see what the knees are doing.

    Why don't you use the low bar position? Problems with your shoulders?

    JCJ, i used to squat low bar until to the shown squat session, no shoulder problems. I switched because i like how the high bar seems to stress my quads more. I also feel that the high bar squat is more natural to me, whatever that means;-)

    There's an article on T-Nation that details Olympic vs Powerlifting squat techniques. The low-bar position can move more weight, but it changes the posture and limits the depth. It is usually a max-weight pursuit of its own, down to parallel and back. The high-bar squat is usually an assistance exercise for the Olympic lifts instead of a max weight pursuit of its own, emphasizing mobility and explosiveness. Olympic lifts emulate a front squat, and high-bar is the closest adaptation that can put more weight on the legs without totally reversing the mechanics.

    I squat for the heck of it, no competition, so i chose the style which feels better.

    1. Turn the light on
    2. Move the camera back
    3. Turn the camera right side up
