Had a conversation on twitter the other day with a fitness oriented gal. She wanted to do push-ups for me in honor of my Veteran status. I thought that was inappropriate considering I'm still here and able to do my own. So after a short conversation and a little brainstorming we put together a January Challenge http://funandfit.org/2012/01/push-up...zGKsp.facebook
Basics are 1 pushup for every American Killed In Action OEF/OIF 2001-2011.
Looking for ideas on how to approach this because I want to be able to do all 6347 of them with good form... I'm feeling like I may want to take the extra challenge and do 7649 to include every Coalition member who died in Iraq or Afghanistan during that time.

Joe,
That is a great idea! Do you want to complete all of them in a designated period of time?
Thank you for your service!

Goal is to have them all done by January 31st. I've settled into about 300 a day doing them in sets of 20. Arms are handling it fine but my pecs are a little annoyed. So far 300 on the first, 300 on the second and 100 this morning already.
212 a day is the average, but I'm feeling confident I can make the Coalition number and I'd rather be ahead of the curve than have a bad day or three and try to make up a 1000 on the 31st.
Again, the form for me is important. I got the conditioning to handle it. I am interested in seeing where this goes though. Raising Combat Casualty awareness and fitness at the same time, I guess sometimes it's a simple idea that gets the message out there.

For those that are interested, my January Fitness goal has become a sponsored event. Anytime Fitness is offering a 1 year membership to one lucky participant in the #PatriotPushUps event being coordinated by Fun and Fit.
The rules for the challenge are simple. 1 Push Up for every US Service member Killed In Action 2001-2011 during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Total # 6347 to be completed by January 31st.
