Default Beast Clean and Press Today

I took the past week off to compete in the AZ Cactus Grip Showdown in Tucson yesterday. Today, I decided to take advantage of the down time boost and test my press. I got my 98# for 4 on the right, 5 on the left.

Then I decided to try the beast for singles. I was able to do it both sides, so I got the video camera and recorded the second attempt. Overall, I'm happy with it, however I noticed on the right side, I think I let my shoulder come up at the top of the press. Need to keep that down in the future. The sweatshirt might have something to do with it too.

It's taken me about 1 year and 8 months to get to this point. When I started 8/2/2010, I was using the 35lb bell.

Also, apologies to DD this is not a DD bell.

That seems like a really short amount of time to me. Nice job you've been working hard!

Strong! I bet you will be pressing it for 5 on each side very soon!

You have made very good progress. Were you using ETK?

Awesome work Bwwm! One of the smoothest beast presses I've ever seen, and on both sides to boot!

Are those your kids in the background? They're awfully cute, and that is an awesome playground. Its so good to see kids playing on a playground with swings, slides, climbing, etc, and not jsut stuck in front of a television, wii, etc.

Yes, those are my kids in the background. They disassembled my chain & kb for doing weighted pull-ups and were using the chain as their anchor for playing pirates. If you listen very closely, you can hear them talking about getting 'beer' for their ship. The pinecones are the beer bottles. To be honest, that's the best thing about kbs, is I can workout at home, outside with the kids playing in the yard, and in between sets do stuff with them.

They know to stay away from Daddy, when I have a KB in my hand (you can see my daughter stop when she sees me). Normally, I'm facing wherever they are so I know where they are better.

Thanks to all for the compliments!!! I've received a lot of good tips and words of encouragement over the past 2 years on this board. Thank you for that.

Yes, I've been using ETK. In recent months, there were a few deviations from the plan for C&P as follows:

1.) TGU's on Mondays instead of C&P. I've been doing singles both sides with a weight ladder of 35,53,70,88 lbs.
2.) I needed additional rotator cuff work with dumbbells. Nothing really heavy, but enough to build & keep strength in rarely used planes/angles of motion. This is because I sit at my day job for a tremendous amount of hours, and I really don't move in many directions other than what I do in my workouts. I know Pavel is not a fan of "prime mover" exercises for rotator, but I needed the strengthening because when I would do odd jobs around the house that I hadn't done in a while, my shoulders would act up.
3.) Ladder progression - at the end of last year I tried building up to 5x(1,2,3,4) with the 88#, but doing 5x(1,2,3) all of a sudden on Wednesdays, really bumped up the weekly volume and I felt like I wasn't recovering well. I dropped back for some time, and then this winter I gradually increased both the medium and heavy day volumes, and this was a much smoother transition to completing the 5x(1,2,3,4).

But overall, ETK worked and worked well. If I would have done anything different, I would have been less aggressive on variety days. At one point, I was thinking of switching over to perfecting the press, but I stuck with ETK since I made the commitment to follow it.

    Thanks to Pavel!

Now to focus on the SSST!
