    Default Sumo deadlift 678 @ ~177

Just bragging a little - this is a new all-time PR for me.

    That's insane!

I notice that you don't lift with a very wide stance, unlike a lot of sumo pullers I've seen. I've never been able to make sumo pulls work for me, despite the widespread opinion that they're the better option for T-Rex-armed individuals like myself. Did you naturally gravitate toward the closer stance, or did you experiment with ultra-wide as well? Thanks.

    Reinhardt / Fatman,

I instinctively pulled sumo style, the first time I ever deadlifted a barbell. Analyzing why it works for me: I have wider hips relative to my shoulders and I'm a little duck-toed, which makes a conventional stance uncomfortable unless my grip spacing is well beyond shoulder width (my knees bump into my arms excessively). The sumo style is also a more natural fit for a hip dominant individual, like myself, as opposed to conventional deadlifts which typically provide a better result for an explosive individual with a stronger lower back.

In the same breath, a full sumo stance saps too much of my strength off the floor, as is the case with most unequipped lifters. For me, semi-sumo is just the right combination of comfort and efficiency.

    Rif,

Not bad, right? I think it looks quite pretty for a PR (I'm still feeling it today, though).

    RJ79 / Rickard / StrongBear,

    Thanks!

    All the best,
    Jeff
