    Default Doomsday Preppers observation

Last night I caught some of this Tv show and was blown away by how not just bat guano crazy this folks are but how incredibly impractical as well.A vast majority of them are incredibly overweight and out of shape and the amount of stuff they want to carry with them is just ridiculous. Honestly maybe I'm wrong but these people should act as if they're training for the Tough Mudder.I know it's a fictional show but they could learn a lot from the Walking Dead

Not all of them are impractical. Yes there are some boneheads on that show and were both probably thinking of the same ones but honestly I think some of them are on the ball. Also YES in a disaster you HAVE to be in shape! As far as I am concerned exercise is both a want and a need!

In the event of an emergency the only fitness equipment you could bring with you are 2 Kettlebells at best because you would have to be focusing on all your survival equipment and family first and foremost.

Those people are almost certainly insane, believing what they believe.

If you're a nutcase, your physical fitness levels matter little. Especially if the delusional scenario you're prepping for somehow comes true. Keeping your shit together would be more important than being able to do a lot of pullups IMO.

Should an apocalypse strike, everybody will die anyway. If it gets people motivated to train, though, it's all OK in my book.

Look all I'm going to say is that if you or anyone thinks that in a disaster that the government is going to come to the rescue than you are the one that is delusional. The only person you can count on to save you is you. At the end of the day if you don't listen to warning signs and advice that you get than you only have yourself to blame.

I know a guy who's into survival and being prepared for this big event he's convinced is coming. He's saving up for more guns at the moment but he can't climb a flight of stairs without getting winded.

I agree with what you are saying. At the same time I would have to say that it is not the gov job to take care of you or your family. People need to learn to take care of them self.

I never said that being fit will not help you survive. Just that the scenarios playing in these people's heads make me more worried about them than about a potential disaster.

As to governments and natural calamities, numbers speak for themselves: in countries of the so-called Western hemisphere "the government" actually does a pretty good job handling emergency situations. Not sure where you live, so I can't comment on that. But of course the more self reliant you are the easier it will be to handle the fallout of a disaster, that much should be self-evident.

Precisely the kind of individual I'm referring to. Stockpiling weapons probably gives him a sense of purpose in life, or, as in most such cases, he's compensating for something else (wink, wink). Or maybe he knows of a way one can shoot his/her way out of a tornado or earthquake, in which case the joke's on everyone else.

These types of threads are fun. Full of fantasy and what-not. I can't help but sense that there are those people who relish the idea of the world descending into complete chaos and total disaster with no government or authority , no hospitals or doctors, no Wal-Marts or Food Kings to shop from, no electrical power or cable TV. Fighting off the zombie apocolypse and roving bands of Road Warrior bad guys with just a Bowie knife and that illegal automatic rifle they had stashed away for many years in the hope that they may actually get to go full auto and blast away to their hearts content. This video game menatality is asinine. In an event where the world is truely over with and done - NOT the occassional hurricane or tsunami - but say a world-wide nucular war or disease which incurs mass extinction of all life - the lucky people will be those who die quickly. Let the fatty-fat fatsos stuff their face with Little Ceasars Pizza and play their mindless END OF THE WORLD GAMES. Hurricane Sandy, like other regional disasters has shown again that you can't completely rely on the government to rescue you. Be prepared but be REAL. Hey fat-ass - stop playing stupid video games!!. Boy that was fun!!.hehe!!...Dennis
