Default Found a doctor to help me

The problem is, they're far enough away that I'd have to buy a plane ticket, get a hotel room for 1-2 nights and probably pay for the entire cost of the treatment out of pocket. So I figure I'm looking at $1000 minimum just to take a chance at an accurate diagnosis.

I sent an email to this doctor, and they responded as follows:

    Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx,

This certainly seems like a rotational malignment. Most of these patients have already been through the medical “mill” after years of useless PT, through useless arthroscopic and other “minimally invasive” procedures, and finally narcotic addiction at the hands of the “pain management” doctors.

You need to find a competent doctor to do the correct physical examination, order the correct imaging, and then have the guts to act on his/her findings. Unfortunately, there aren’t so many of these people as the work is hard, and the remuneration is low. I am sorry, but I don’t know anyone in your part of the world that regularly takes these cases on.

Perhaps you should visit me for a day or two, and you will return home with all the answers you seek.
    With best regards,
    xxxx xxxxxxx MD FACS

If he's right, anyone know anyone skilled at diagnosing such things within a few hours of Albany, NY?

Honestly, if I were you, I'd spend the money so I can live pain-free. Granted I understand that its substantial sum of money, but think of it as a sunk-cost that solve your problems.

Except it's still a gamble. Not only to I miss out on a minimum of $1000, it's probably 2 days of vacation, at least, I have to use. And there's no telling I don't just go here and he says, "oh, this isn't the problem and I don't know what is."

I'm 3 hours from NYC. Close enough to make a day trip. There MUST be a doctor in NYC that takes these kinds of cases on, or at least can diagnose them.

Also close enough to Boston. And maybe even Philadelphia. That's the largest, 5th largest, and 21st largest cities in the country. I can't believe there is no one in either of those cities that can help.

There are 39 million people in a 200 mile radius from my home. I'd be willing to drive that far. That's 1/8 of the entire population of the United States of America. There IS a doctor who can handle this in this area.

I know mate, I've been following your posts about it, and I know its very intimidating considering all the various visits you've been to that have ended pointlessly.

Nonetheless, since he knows what he's talking about, I thought that the trip might be worth the risk.

I can afford it. Fortunately it's not a big hit on my bottom line. But putting a dollar value on a mere chance at a diagnosis at least puts it in perspective for others. I'm more concerned about the inconvenience of flying, staying in a hotel, using vacation time, It's more the inconvenience, and frustration that not even doctors can provide a recommendation for someone within a day's drive when I'm adjacent to the most densely populated part of the country.

Did this guy say what he would do? Like, what do the treatments involve?

Finding the right guy can be a long and frustrating process but it made all the difference for my shoulder and back pain.

I quoted every word he said.

"you will return home with all the answers you seek" sounds a little too self-assured.

See if these people can point you in the right direction.

To me that last line is a red flag and a switch off. I'd expect to hear that from some kind of alternative healer not a health professional.

This is probably neither here nor there but while "malignment" might sound like the right word it isn't, misalignment would be. Malignment would be used in discussion of how someone slandered your name ie. "my malignment by Johnny was uncalled for". If this was his choice of word, red flag just got bigger...

Yeah... I think I'd ask for more details before going all the way over there.
