    Default 10,000 Swing Challenge Progress

Last night I completed workout 8 of the 10,000 swing challenge. I had to temper the program a bit for the first 6 workouts by beginning with a 16kg kettlebell. The last two workouts were with 24kg kettlebell, and it is leaps and bounds more difficult than with the 16kg. I also am only able to do it 3 days a week because of life, but seems to be more than enough. So this routine will last a few days over 6 weeks.

After just 8 workouts my endurance is through the roof (once I recover that is). Since starting the program I have also lost a little over 10lbs, and hoping for at least another 10 before I am done. The worst part, regardless of the weight of the bell, is my grip (even though the 24kg is obviously even tougher on the grip). I also am playing catch-up on the skin tears and have bought a pair of gloves (hopefully will get here quickly) that should help the problem, but will only be used when necessary.

Overall, I am excited for the end of this program for a few reasons. First because the program and pain will be over. Second because I think it will skyrocket my fitness so I can finally be in shape enough to get into all the law enforcement jobs I want.

If you've done it, or are doing it, tell us how yours is going, or has gone.

Awhile back I was having grip "issues" due to rather small hands (but bigger than T's) I got some gymnastics grips that seemed to impinge on my ability to hold on much less than gloves and were a lot more comfortable. Not these specifically because can't find the exact ones at the moment, but very much like

I've seen those, the problem is that they don't cover the fingers. I tend to get my tears on the fingers, not the tips but the middle and lower portions.

So today was workout 9. When switching to the 24kg my times went from about 46 minutes to about 68 and 70 minutes (workouts 7 and 8). Today I got my time to 60 minutes, its crazy to see how the completion times improve so suddenly throughout this program.

I've done it four times. In my blog this last Monday, danjohn.net, I include some other options for getting the workouts in. I've done multiple bells, different rep schemes...you name it. The "best" seems to be 15/35 mixing strength and flexibility work.

The 15/35 scheme looks fun. May incorporate that every other day or something to combat the repetitiveness of the program.

Workout 11 last night, 54:20. Seem to be getting 3-5 minutes faster each new workout.
