    Default Cold Shower Progress

I have been doing CS for around 2 weeks. 2x per day. I have progressed from 30sec - 1min and can now remain in the cold shower (all the way cold) for up to 12 minutes. Its not as hard as you think. The most difficult aspect of doing this is the anticipation BEFORE you proceed with it. And of course the first 30-45 seconds. Then after about a minute it feels as if your body as adjusted its internal temperature to better acclimate with the cold - or it just says "the hell with it" and succumbs to it altogether. I would like to try ice bath submersion. Thinking of filling up my recycling bin on the back patio with ice water and ice cubes for ice bathing. And see how that goes. The family believes I have totally gone nutso. Jumped the tracks. I have purchased the Wim Hoff book THE WAY OF THE ICEMAN. Looking forward to reading it. As far as mental toughness goes, its hard to tell this early. I do know that after I have showered in the cold water I just feel fully charged and wide awake with a huge desire to JUST DO SOMETHING. Productive. I do plan to begin initiating my showers without doing the initial hot shower and soaping up. So no hot water at all. Just COLD from start to finish. Cold Turkey showering...hehehe!!...Dennis

Fast progress! Does depend a bit on where you live. I spent a couple years outside Tucson, AZ and winter tap water was in mid to high 60's. Now I live in the CO Rockies and winter tap water I just now measured is 45. Pretty fat difference.

I suspect your are right about where you live. I live in Oklahoma. Not too cold in winter, but then again I used to live in Wisconsin. But then again you could live in Barrow Alaska and skinny dip in the lake. The time of year is also a factor. But you work with what you got. Just received the book by Wim Hoff. Plan to read it tonight...Dennis

I've never mustered up to do it (yet) but there are lot of hunters here and when people age out or upgrade they often sell chest freezers for very low cost. Disable the latch for safety, fill it with water, set the aftermarket thermostat you put on it for whatever temp you want, and you have an icy mountain lake right in your home!

I have stepped up my game with cold showers. I no longer begin with a hot shower. I go straight to cold and soap up and rinse and then remain in the cold spray for 3-4 minutes. This is my morning shower. My afternoon shower I do the same but do it for 10 minutes. My mental alertness especially in the morning has really perked up. No more early morning brain fog. Muscle recovery from soreness has noticeably improved. Looking forward to training today...Dennis

I have surpassed my goal of 30 days cold showers (2x per day). I think I have been at it now five weeks + or - a couple days. A few times I managed 15 minutes of showers. I have gotten to where there is no longer any hesitation what-so-ever when I hit the cold spray. No momentary thoughts or rationalizing my way out of it. I just do it. Its now easy. But if I lived in Barrow Alaska it would probably be a bit tougher...hehehe!!!...Dennis

I have seen it. I believe Wim Hof has overcome alcohol abuse with his methods. Unfortunately for me I am under the weather with the flu. Body hurts everywhere, chest congestion, NO appetite, horrible sleep, fever. This has been about 10 days now. And as a result I have forgone the cold showers. For now. It just became too hard while having the flu symptoms. I am still doing IF. Weight loss has increased a lot - but probably due to my illness. Its not a good weight loss as my strength has also gone sideways...Dennis

Just getting out from under that myself. Past couple weeks feeling like I just ran a double ultra-marathon i.e. cored out. Mostly sleeping and moping. Starting to get back to it though...
