Default So, who would be a good comparative of Conan the Barbarian?

I was just listening to some of the soundtrack from the movie & was wondering who (ex: Timber Sports champions, Scottish Highland warriors, some person from history) would be a good comparative of Conan the Cimmerian? I know in the movies he does a lot of power-lifter-y stuff, so the people that push that do comparable things in competitions would be- well, comparable.

But I mean the stuff from the books: throwing a bolt on a door that it would have taken three men to move like it was a regular latch, being able to haul an enemy fighter in the way of a sword to block it at the last second, being able to break a grown man's back between his hands if he wanted to, or breaking one's neck with a regular punch.

Not to mention slaughtering cattle with a punch between the eyes & a hammerfist to the back of its neck (winning bets by doing both before it hit the ground)!

Maybe some of this is exaggeration, but some of the things that he does seems plausible. There was one where he went up & over a fence with a woman over his shoulder (hostage), another where he carried a bigger one on his shoulder for at least hours on end in the desert, and there was a situation where he considered "heaving the beast" (which was a small horse, if I remember correctly) into a river for some reason.

Okay, I'll bite. How about Samson from the bible, who slew an army with the jawbone of an ass? Conan is after all a made up fantasy. ..Dennis

Comparing fictional charactors to real life individuals is sorta pointless. BUT there have been those individuals - real people -who do stand out as true badasses. One that I mentioned awhile back on this forum was William Ewart Fairbairn. Google him. His lifetime career as a genuine take no prisoners badass is amazing. I wish the movie industry would do a movie or series on his life. But WEF was real flesh and blood and not the product of imagination...Dennis

The guy that helped make the Fairbairn Sykes dagger? Yeah, he seemed pretty serious. Damn-near died & then took training a bit more seriously, from what I remember.

What I mean are physical capabilities. Are these based on real feats from history? Or training standards?

Maybe some hard scrabble hillbilly dirt farmer in the Appalachains mountains - 6' 3" 325lbs. Works his land without modern machinery (his wife pulls the plow). hehehe!!...Dennis
