Default Anyone used Mike Mahler's HOC program ?

I'm thinking of giving it a try and just wondered about what other people have experienced. Thanks in advance.

Default Well, I'm going to give it a try starting tomorrow.

I'm trying to decide on the best combo, but given my sub-amateur level of conditioning, I'm sure to be calling for O2 in about 8 minutes.

Yup, I know what you mean, I'm sure it can be a really tough 8 minutes, and I don't think I'll fare much better the first few times through. I tried a version of HIIT a couple of years ago that involved (if I remember right) alternating jogging with sprints at 30 sec intervals. I think you were supposed to start at 4 mins. and work up to 12. It was tough.

    Default Here are some testimonials

from people that have used the program:

"On the HOC program that Mike designed for me I have become leaner than ever. In six months I have gone from a bodyfat percentage of 23% all the way down to 14.5%. I am 36 years old and I have never felt better." Staci From Punch Gym in R.I.

"Using your HOC principals with kettlebells has helped me to shed 31 pounds and my strength and energy are through the roof. The great thing about the HOC workouts is they only get boring if I let them. I can change the exercises, or order, to keep them fresh."--Shane B Mankato, MN

"I just wanted to let you know that I have been doing your HOC work out for three weeks. I have dropped several pounds and yesterday hit my goal weight of 150."--Jerry Nelson, VA

"Over the last 5 weeks I have lost a total of 14lbs and 4%BF, from my figures. I started this program at 242lbs and 20%BF and am curretly at 228lbs and 15-15.5%BF."--Ken (Meani on the dragondoor forum)

Make sure you have your diet in order, do 3 HOC workouts per week and I have no doubt that you will lose fat.

I try to do the short version once per week - total 1 mile run with 8 sets of exercises. So, basically it's one exercise every 200 meters. I start off at @ 75-80% max sprint, but at the end I'm just trying to keep from walking. It's pretty intense, and my heart rate stays in the 170 range. It has been pretty effective so far.

    Default Yes;

Mike Mahler himself has already posted several testimonials from overweight trainees who successfully lost a lot of weight and got in shape. I did for a couple months it when I was already quite lean and in perfectly decent aerobic and anaerobic conditioning from running and crew, and found that it improved my aerobic/anaerobic capacity to the point where plain distance running at moderate intensity was a joke.

Default Check out my blood pressure from HOC...

After doing HOC for about 3 weeks my stats went down to:

    Blood pressure: 99/61
    Pulse: 55 bpm
    Body Fat: 8%

I could see my abs better than ever. Actually I am starting another HOC routine which will last 16 days (Going on vacation so I don't have time to go longer). I'll try to remember to keep you guys updated on my progress.

(By the way, the majority of my diet consisted of fruit, sardines in water, fresh coconut, soaked and sprouted almonds, greens, some free range eggs, and litle or no grains. I occasionally drank some yerba mate tea with honey or molasses.)
