33rd week, signs of progress

by kuurakarahka on 08-16-2009 at 08:50 AM
I've been doing get-ups for three months now, and I am handling the 40 kg pretty well now, with the hip bridge and all. A rep takes about 40 to 50 seconds, but everything seems to be in order for advancing. By the end of the year I should be able to TGU a 48 kg.

Plate curls: a month ago I did a nice right-hand curl with a 15 kg plate, dimensions 250 x 40 mm. A month later, I did the same with my left. Setting my sights on the odd 19 kg plate at the gym, around 11" wide.

A good day training.

Pull-ups, thumbless: 1x 40, 44, 48, 44, 3x1 40 kg
5 minute rests, BW 75 kg

Zercher SQ: 3x55 kg, 3x3 73 kg (getting the hang of this lift, did the deadlift with snatch grip just for the hell of it)

C&P: 1x55 kg (pretty easy, just to see what it felt like, max 60 kg)

Standing ab wheel: 2 x full rollout

HLR: 2x3 4-1-4 tempo (grueling!)

Some work with the bag, training the punch

DL 5x93 kg, 5x83 kg
C&MP (2-h BB) 5x35 kg, 5x30 kg
Pullup, tactical 4x1 32,5 kg
Bending: 2 DU + 4 reverse 6"x5,1mm
Snatches: 7x6/6 OTM = 84 / 7 min 24 kg

There is one bend I didn't include in there, because I wanted it to stand out from the rest of the practice: I bent a 6,5"x7mm round piece of steel (stainless? Could be). What makes it special is that I have another one of those kinked a bit, but I have been unable to bend it any further

The last test for the week. Previous PR for the week:

SSST: 181 / 24kg (one rep more)
Chinup: 55 + 73 kg BW (5 kg more extra weight)
Pistol: 20+16 kg DB's, a rep with each leg (previous was a 32 kg KB)

Looks good so far. Let's see how my KB presses compare to this:

Warmed up with 3/3 BU MP's with 16 kg, 3 min rest, 2/2 C&P 24 kg, 3 min rest, 2/2 loaded cleans 41 kg, 3 min rest, a failed 32 kg attempt, 5 min rest...

Some tests today.

Weighted chins:
I hit a PR of 55 kg @ 73-74 kg BW, so it's a 1 3/4 BW chin. A 5 kg improvement over the last attempt. I tried with 60 kg (should've done with 57,5 instead) but got only halfway up. I didn't train this movement in the last cycle, but I did work on one-armed chins by practicing comedowns and holds.

Did a pistol with both legs holding 16 and 20 kg DB's, so a total of 36 kg - almost half my BW, slightly easier with
