07/02 and 07/03 - Kettlebells and Light Karate Session

On the 2nd I did an early morning kettlebell training session. Getting up at 5am stinks, no wonder why I like working nights.

Usual dynamic warm-up of squats and lunges mixed with some jogging and dynamic stretching.

KB specific warm-up. Halo squats both ways - one legged orbits both ways - KB complex - one arm one leg press and hold. 60 sec each except holds were 30 sec each side. I used the 14kg.

02/28/2011 Karate Workout/Hardstyle Kettlebell Workout

Warmed up with some foam rolling and mobility drills, seiken push-ups, and dynamic stretching. I then worked some te waza and uke waza, taisabaki drills, and kata. After this, I hopped right into the kettlebell workout.

[b]See Saw Press:[/b] 2x16kg x10/10/10.

[b]Box Pistols:[/b] 3x3, using the second step on my staircase. Almost can do one full rep with the right leg, lost my balance at the last instant.

02/26/2011 Hardstyle Kettlebell Workout

[B]See Saw Press:[/B] 2x16kg for 3 sets of 10 reps.

[B]Assisted Pistols:[/B] 3x3 per leg, body weight.

[B]Swings:[/B] 20 one-armed swings (10 right, then 10 left) followed by 60 sec of active recovery, for a total of 12 minutes. Most was my usual shadowboxing, but I also trained Sanchin kata twice as my active recovery too which was a fun variation. 6 sets total.

[B]Get-Ups:[/B] 5 min with a 16kg, alternating sides. Managed 7 reps per side.

02/24/2011 Kyokushin Karate

Intense 2-hour class today, we were all sweating and breathing hard throughout. Big focus on geri waza as kihon (including lots of knees off the switch and leaping front kicks; Kancho was feeling a bit sadistic tonight), then worked on some more fighting combinations and kata.

02/22/2011 Kyokushin Karate

Did a fun kettlebell workout with my wife today, nothing serious but she wanted me to work out with her so I did.

Kyokushin later that night. Worked some basic kihon and kata, then a lot of fighting combinations. Worked a bit on some of the flashier stuff tonight (spinning kicks and axe kicks). Good back and forth partner work tonight, both with contact and with pads.
