Safe Organic Sunblock Recommendation?

Hello comrades,

I'm looking for an organic safe alternative to sunblock vs the commercial brands sold in retail. During this time of year and summer I'm outside almost everyday for work. In the past I have used sunsblock usually the ones sold in retail. But have had a couple growths on my skin removed from my back that did not look right couple years ago.
I was relieved that they were benign after the lab results.

During the past year I have taken nutrition seriously and eating as much organic and whole foods as possible. And would like to use a sunblock that is safer on the skin. Have read a couple articles that some sunblocks increase the risk of sc. Any recommendations much appreciated.

Not making any recommendations here because skin cancer can be very serious, however, my daughter makes her own skin creme out of shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter and some aloe. She said she never used sunscreen last summer, but did use shea butter and never even had a sunburn and was outside quite a bit. Shea butter has a bit of an odor and is a little "slimy" and coconut oil is greasy which is why she was experimenting some and likes the combo. For what it's worth.

I use many of Burt's Bees products. Their sunblock is a bit pasty, but it works. Check out their website. www.burtsbees.com

If your going to the beach then yeah slap on some of the afore mentioned substances, if like me your an outdoor enthusiast, my advice is sun glasses, wide rimmed had and a shemagh scarf. The scarf can double up as a face cover and is breatheable and light coloured (so dissipated head instead of absorbing it like black clothes). common sense stuff like a long sleeved shirt or fatigues to cover up the rest.

It might sound extreme but i like hill walking, outdoor survival, kayaking etc etc etc so cream is impractical.

I am a Tsalagi indian and our traditional remedy is a hat and long-sleeved shirt (SPV 8000). It works if you are recreating or if you are working in a field.

Why organic? Are you going to eat it?

too true even without the quotes. When I was at the museum of torture in San Gimignano, Italy, I saw one exhibit where the victim was made to stand in a barrel of pooh and the fecal bacteria would do painful things to your body without any violence--kind of like waterboarding. Speaking of which, as an American I am proud to say that amid all the ancient and mediaeval exhibits, there was one modern one: a room devoted to President Bush (the second one, and not his father). My visit to the museum is before Shrub, the lesser Bush, took his born-again torture agenda to the national level. I can only marvel at what that exhibit now looks like. I have to get back there.
