How about price? Not sure I would make the switch unless it was close to Carlson's, which is about $22 for a month's supply. 1500mg DHA per day (tablespoon).

bottom lines
algae oil is higher up the tree - it's where the fish get what they need to become omega 3 providers - it's the source of omega 3'ness.
it's far more environmentally friendly than fish - the rate of which according to BottomFeeders has gone up something like three thousand percent since the early 2000's. so growing organically fabulous algae is actually an easier process than the cost of fish
the ratio of dha/epa is according to algae researchers closer to the profile appropriate for humans. Still need about a gram a day.
but despite cheaper costs at scale, currently of course it's going to be alas more expensive than fish oil because of the scale of production. Carlson's is a HUGE company that currently doesn't do algae. There's only a few makers. I like v-pure, but no kidding cost is a factor for most people.
It's hard to think cost to the planet when we're thinking cost in our wallet. but maybe it's one thing that might be feasible to mix in.
my own observation:
And if you find some folks get higher bruising with
the epa heavy balance of fish oil, going for the higher dha ration in algae seems to help.
hope that helps

If I lived in a place I could get them fresh I would surely include sea veggies of all types in my diet but I dont really want some powdered stuff in a jar or w/e instead lol.
Sometimes I think I would move just so I could go someplace where better food is available.

A quick Google on the subject of algae oil reveals interest in it as a biodiesel fuel, also finds it for sale to be applied directly to the skin, and last but not least as part of at least one edible oil product, although the one I found was a mix of flax seed, borage, and algae, the latter being cited as if it was a substitute for fish oil as Comrade mc suggests.
I called the local Whole Foods Market - they said they'd never heard of it.
If I find it, I will try it.

I love it when you call me Comrade, mc.
Thank you - I ordered BioTest Flameout yesterday, and will order v-pure now, and will do some experimenting along with my current Trader Joe's oil supplement, just to see if I feel any difference. My wife does not tolerate any of these things well, so we'll see how she like any of them, too.
