    Default HCG Diet?

I have a really close friend's wife that is on the HCG Diet. I'm very concerned and would like to get some thoughts and opinions from fellow dragon door members. I've tried to dissuade her from this diet, but she keeps on seeing the number on the scale go down on a daily basis. She was never really that overweight to begin with. So far she's lost 35 pounds on it, but she doesn't look much thinner to me. The diet claims that you'll lose mostly adipose tissue (fat), but I don't see how that could be possible on a 500 calorie a day diet.

I have a friend who is doing this and having a similar experience. Supposedly the HCG stimulates increased fat loss in the face of near starvation, or extreme calorie deficit, but I don't know if it protects lean muscle tissue, which is burned usually when people go into calorie deficit diets. That will result in rebound weight gain and metabolism slow down which defeats the purpose of trying to lose fat in the first place.

I have two clients who want to do it also, cause they want an "easy" way out...per their own statements. I told them I'd hook them up with the resource, but I think this is stupid. First of all, eating only animal protein and veggies, while low cal, IS acid forming, which further causes fat gain and also, like I said, I don't know it lean muscle tissue is sacrificed in this process.

What happened to just good old will power, working out smarter, not harder (ie, with kbs) and quit eating crap?? Hmm....

It involves too much personal responsibility and leaves no one else to blame.

I told her the exact same thing in my own words of course. I especially emphasized the fact that she's going to gain the weight back because her metabolism has slowed down so much.

I also asked her, "If you have the will power and discipline to follow such an extreme diet, why is it so hard to have the same will power and discipline to follow a healthy eating program and exercise program?"

Unfortunately, as long as she see's that the number on the scale is consistantly going down, I'll probably never get through to her. I offered my advice FOR FREE since she is a very close friend of mine's wife. But, she wants to do things her way. Unfortunately, her way is not going to work in the long run.

I would appreciate any more thoughts and opinions on this subject because I want to send her a link to this thread at some point.

I've read about the hCG diet in Kevin Trudeau's The Weight Loss Cure "they" Don't Want You to Know About. I've never tried it but I've heard it works quite well from people who have. The idea behind it is that the hCG and the special diet resets your hypothalamus in your brain, which helps stabalize many hormone imbalances. It therefore allows your body to release much of the fat it's carrying, while at the same time fixing the hormonal issues that cause it to come back. Is it the end all, be all? I don't think so, but for many it's a big help, and it works. I've followed Trudeau for years and he's always provided great, solid information.

You're not helping. In all seriousness, thanks for your opinion even though it's not what I wanted to hear.

    Default HCG Protocol

Hello everyone I Personally did the HCG protocol after I read the weight loss cure from Kevin Trudeau. I started out at 178lbs. I did it for 25 days and lost 23.lbs. that was almost a year and a half ago. To this day I only weigh 158lbs. your only comsuming 500 calories a day but your body is using between 2500-3000 calories from your fat the hcg makes this happen not you starving! and after the first 4-5 days you virtually feel no hunger and sleep incredible. Also I did no exercise on purpose just to prove to myself it would work and overall Im pleased with the results and to me there aint no other diet out there that can deliver these types of results in less than one month! if you have any ?'s please feel free to ask me

I have also followed Kevin Trudeau's books and though he's a bit fanatical I believe much of what he says is true and that the HCG diet does work and isnt unhealthy.

That being said I havnt tried it so its only my opinion based on my judgement of his character.

    Thanks for the PM.

I'd not heard of this, but reading the site you cite, am i correct that someone does a very low calorie diet AND this hormone? so 500kcal's a day?

    Ah come on!

Have you ever read the story "stone soup"?

My sense is that - and this is a guess - the hcg is likely neutral or harmless and all the weight loss is coming from the starvation level calories.

Is it nutrious and healthy? no.
    is it optimal? no.

will you change someone's mind who FINALLY seems to have found the right external solution to their weight loss problems? er. no.

And yes if you have a ton of weight to lose, most of it will come from fat. No reason not to.

If it only lasts a month or so, we're pretty flexible. It's not an approach anyone will want to do forever, and if she starts to rebound, point her to martha beck's Four Day Win to get a handle on the Inner Factors rather than external factors needed to help readjust the whole brain, not just the hypothalamus, for success.

    hope that helps,

    best
