I've not gained any lean mass based on my daily bf% measurements. I've been stude at around 184-186 lbs LBM since January. I've gained some size in the biceps and chest/shoulders and lost some size in my waist.

However, I AM getting stronger. I test my big lifts (Squat, Dead, OHP) monthly. These numbers have been going up consistently while I've been doing ESE. My numbers on kettlebell work are also improving. I hit 5x5 ladders with the C&P using the 24kg. Today I was able to get through 4x3 lassers with the 32kg out of the gate.

My goal is to get down to between 10-15% BF and then evaluate where I'm at. if the fat is still coming off easily great, I'll keep cutting. If not, I may change my exercise to increase muscle gains for a time.

    these are my results...YMMV.

    Peace,
    Erik

Nice! Good to know. I suppose if one eats enough of the good stuff on regular days you're bound to build a little.

This amazes me, do you mean you acomplished both in a short space of time or that you started with the 24k some time ago? Because I can hit 5 ladders of 5 with the 24k now, but I can only do maybe 3 or 4 singles with the 28k in one day, and I can just barely clean the 32 with my knees locked!

I got introduced to KB's about a year ago by a personal traininer who just got RKC certified back in October. I basically went through the PM with him. In late November, it became clear that my daughter's school/orchestra schedule was impeding my ab9ility to get to the gym 3-4 days a week. So, I pcked up my first KB (the 24 kg one on the recommendation of my trainer). Started working ETK protocols and just recently hit an easy 5x5 C&P ladder. I then bought the 32kg earlier this week and started workign with it this morning. I'm pressing the 32kg, swinging the 24kg, and working vwc snatches 1x/week with a 16 kg bell.

So, prior to late November, I was doign KB stuff once a week with a trainer. I started serious KB work 3 or 4 months ago.

    Peace,
    Erik

Angryman: I found that after starting fasting the first two weeks I did eat alot. Actually never felt totally satisfied. But that is part of the adjustment period. Maybe start with shorter periods like 12 hours and tack on more. One trick that I use is(in a 5/19 format) place the eating period somewhere in the middle of the day like 4-5 hours before sleep. So 5 hours active+ 8 hours sleep plus 6 hours wake up then eat = 19 hours. I've also found it easier to fast after waking up from a nights sleep. The hunger pangs don't seem to be as strong. One of the arguments for the fasting method is that the body learns to burn the fats better and also to use the energy stored in the liver instead of relying on quick sources of energy in carbs/simple sugars.

Hey everyone. I wanted to post back my results so far....I'm starting my 4th week on IF next week. So far, I've lost 5 lbs. I'm doing ROP with double 35 lbers (I'm a woman), so I know I'm probably gaining some muscle. I'm happy with the 5 as a start.

For the most part, I'm following a modified version of the leangains program. I'm eating breakfast (about 5:30 AM), then fasting until dinner, which is usually 7:30 PM ish (only water in between, or a diet soda if I need the caffeine). I have a protein shake pre-workout (about 5:40 PM), per his guidelines and break the fast after my workout with dinner. The 10 hour eating window he suggests for women to start with includes my post workout meal and breakfast. It was important to me to find a schedule that would allow me have breakfast and dinner with my husband. I'm refusing to give those up, I enjoy that time with him. It feels like a good start and end to the day.

Anyway, I haven't done a 24 hr fast in a week or two, but my longterm plan is to combine the two and do 1-2 ESE style fasts a week. I'll re-evaluate that once I reach my goal BF%. I'm planning on starting a 24 hr fast tomorrow morning after breakfast.

I'm feeling great, the workouts are going great, I'm making strength gains and I'm not missing the constant thought of food! I wish I had found IF a LONG time ago!!

I’ve been doing a modification of ESE recently as well. I still do fasts, but rather than simply ‘resuming eating’ at the end of a fast (dinner for me), I eat a controlled small meal (500-1000 cal) in the evening and nothing else at all – this ensures that the fasting day has a significantly reduced number of calories (what causes weight/fat loss on ESE). I found myself eating more and more in the evenings after breaking a fast and slowing my progress, and this helped.

Another habit I started has been to hold off eating until lunch (at least on work days), maximizing the sleep fast on normal eating days (I usually don’t eat much of a breakfast anyway). This prevents me from grazing and eating crap in my office during the morning hours as well (one of my big problems...).

Wow...Yeah, I'm looking to get that skinny. I'm not following his approach 100%, but I'm following the principles for the most part. I know as I get closer to my goal, I'll probably have to get a little more strict to keep from plateauing, but so far, it's working great.

eating smaller meals more often is better unless you are trying to screw up your metabolism
