    Not according to research on intermittent fasting. Research has showing that your metabolism does not slow down, as the "6 meals a day" crowd claims unless you go 72 hours or more without food. IF may not be a fit for everyone, but for me, it's been a perfect fit so far, and I'm feeling great and losing stubborn pounds.

    Although this comes up regularly here, I see it's time to discuss it again.

    Feeling lousy after missing a meal is normal if you're used to eating often. Your response to food is something you can _train_, just like you can weight _train_ or _train_ to run a marathon.

    Training examples abound. If you're used to doing a lot of warmups, and you suddenly stop, your performance will suffer, but if you gradually reduce the number of warmups you use, you can get used to performing well with less warmup.

    You can train to be able to squat 300 lbs., but if I just put that much weight on the bar and ask you to squat it without prior training, the results will probably involve an emergency room and a lawyer.

    Likewise, if you gradually reduce the quantity of food and/or the frequency at which you consume it during the day, you can adapt and, as with many such things, your body will be better in terms of its ability to go without regular feedings.

    If you look upon any training as misery, your results will be miserable. If you look upon it as a challenge and structure that challenge properly, then you will rise to the challenge and enjoy feeling better as a result.
