Default Coconut Oil - what are your thoughts?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum.

I was wanting to start a discussion about Coconut oil. I have recently introducted it to my diet and I love it. It has given me so much energy for my workouts and I feel better all round.

Has anyone else tried this "superfood"? What are your thoughts?

I eat a tablespoon every morning and every night before kettlebells. I love it and my skin really benefits from it.

it is my main fat. It is a pet peeve of mine to hear people who say they can "feel" a supplement, vitamin, or food, so I will not make any such statements. Yet I am exceedingly healthy and coconut oil contributes somehow to my awesomeness.

By the way, I use coconut oil because it is one of the few sources of saturated fat available to me.

I too try and supplement my diet with a table spoon per day and I do all my cooking with it. I really want to spread the word about how beneficial this fat is, especially to your training. I definitely find a massive boost in energy from it. Love love love it.

Search this forum and you'll find quite a few recent mentions of coconut oil, including ringing endorsements of the stuff by me and DragonDoor.com publisher John DuCane.

I don't have WD yet, but plan to get it soon. But while it is fresh in my mind, where do you get coconut oil and are they all the same? If it is answered in the book, I guess I will find it there.

    Thanks in advance.

you buy it at any finer store. In Indiana, for example, there is the Georgetown Market in Indie or the Sunspot in Kokomo, or I hear tell that some Kroger stores have a real upscale section that may carry it there.

I find the brand does make a difference in taste. The default brand is the Tree of Life. It tastes slightly coconuty, but more like butter. However I got a label-less can from NutsOnline | Premium Bulk & Wholesale Nuts, Dried Fruits & Gift Baskets and it tastes like full-on coconut--not that there is anything wrong with that; coconut is a good flavor, but you have to realize when using that brand that everything is going be given a coconut undertone.

damn, that is freaky. In my previous post I typed the url to nuts online, but after I submitted my reply, it changed into the above descriptive-prose hyperlink.

If you read up on coconut oil, you'll find that refined coconut oil still has all the good stuff in it, and has almost no coconut taste. For that reason, we keep two kinds in the house - we buy organic, unrefined coconut oil at the local Whole Foods Market, and then in the regular grocery store, we buy refined coconut oil for use in foods where we don't want any coconut flavor. To keep things simple, I just take out a marker and write "eat" on the one jar and "cook" on the other, and we keep them both out on our kitchen counter.
