    Default Soy and weight gain?

How do you guys feel about the effects of soy on weight? When I was thinner I consumed soy everyday. My metabolism took a huge dip and I stopped consuming soy altogether because I thought it might have been the cause. I lost a few pounds but my metabolism never went back to normal. My metabolism went from super fast to very slow in a matter of months. My thyroid tests came out normal but I'll always wonder...Is this my metabolism changing because of age(I was only 21 at the time. I'm now 26)? or did soy influence this change? Also, has anyone else noticed that they just can't keep weight off no matter what they do? I feel pretty alone in my situation.

HCG diet for gaining weight? Is this some kind of joke?

"The HCG diet" is a VLCD (very low calorie diet) with the added twist of injecting small doses HCG pretty much daily. It is touted to be highly effective for weight *loss* and this is said to be because of the HCG.

There are a few issues with HCG diet...
There is no science to back up that HCG will do anything for your weight loss. But yes, living on 500kcal daily for a month will, most likely, have you lose weight.
Another issue is that HCG has been S2 classified by WADA. If this is an issue or not depends on your stance on doping.
HCG is, in most places, not legal to sell over the counter.

Just a little while back the FDA put out a warning telling people to stay off of this.

Just stay clear of HCG. It has no benefits for weight loss or weight gain.

Also check out this mayo clinic link on it http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hcg-diet/an02091

If you consume less calories then you expend you must lose weight, no way around it. Even a couch-potato who will not move anything more then their game controlling thumbs can lose weight, just reduce the food intake to a level less than use by your current level of metabolism.

It's that simple. I know it's not easy for some (I for one really struggle to stay disciplined) but it's that simple.

    Cheers

I read on health and fitness blog before that soy is a good source of protein that makes us strong to do extreme work-out.

Personally, from all I've read from numerous books and websites, I wouldn't touch soy with a 10 foot pole! Glad you've stopped eating it that's for sure. Soy has all sorts of negative affects and one of them is reducing your thyroid function. So it could well be that your metabolism did slow down a lot. However, that said, I would expect your thyroid to slowly regain it's full function once soy has been removed from the diet, so it's strange that you feel your metabolism is still somewhat retarded.

Talking of keeping weight off, what does the rest of your diet look like? What is your typical day on average? There could well be other factors at play here but without more details we can't really help you.

Kadin, you've quoted me but I don't get the context or what you're trying to say by doing so... What was wrong with the sentence?
