Default Nutrition forum saturated with spammers?

I used to frequent this forum quite a bit as there is a wealth of knowledge among this community and I have learned from many of you. However, now all I see are spammer posts talking about the benefits of this and that. The OP doesn't ask a question for discussion or make another response throught the whole post, just blanket statements that look like they are copied and pasted off google after they searched for the benefits of whatever. Another spammer replies to the original one to keep it going -- see benefits of carrots thread and exclude Dennis and Lennys comments. Each one of these posters has a link to some website in their signature trying to sell or market us something.

Don't get me wrong there are still some legit posts from respectable members of this community that generate good discussion. I just keep seeing more and more IMO spammers.

Is there anything I can do to help clean this nutrition forum up of this stuff?

If I am wrong then I apologize but I don't believe I am.

It is sad really. This forum (the nutrition forum) is really good but with the spammers.. well... it becomes annoying to browse it. And the noise to proper posts ratio is waaaay off nowadays.

Agree it is annoying. I find myself not going here much at all because I don't want to try to sift through the posts to see which ones are legit and which ones are BS.

Like I said previously if there's anything I can do to help clean this up im glad to help.

    I agree it's a mess in here.

Not only are the spams annoying, some of the information is downright wrong and potentially dangerous.

Unfortunately there has always been a market for snake-oil ... and as long as there are folks looking for that magic potion (rather than working hard for their goals) there will always be those who are willing to sell it!

I'm thinking the way to go is put in quality posts to offset the madness. But it seems a lost cause.. the feel I have is that this section is pretty much dead.

yeah this forum definitely needs a good revival, I think dragondoor needs to find some more nutrition professionals who will write some quality articles.

I doubt it would help anything, but legitimate posters could rate the spams at a 1, that may deter some.

DD could put a 'rate as spam' feature into the forum, then when a predetermined number of folks hit the button the posting is automatically deleted.

There was a post on this a month or two back, but nothing was done then.

There is a triangle icon with an exclamation point you can click on to report the post if you don't like it.

Taking your advice I put a new post at the top with your recommendation to hit the triangle button

To combat all the spam fools frequenting here please click the triangle icon!!

Hopefully that'll help us kill off these morons.

    Cheers,
