Thanks. I remember you saying you didn't train them anymore, I was just curious if you had tried any really heavy ones recently, following all of your other gains.
Good luck in the competitions,...
Damn strong stuff, thanks for sharing.
Do you do heavy get-ups anymore?
It's not the recommended method for the minimum. No reason you can't do more than the minimum, although the minimum works pretty well all by itself.
I live in North Allegheny and have printed t shirts for the water polo team, pretty funny. Look me up in you come up - but look up Brett first.
You might find Becoming Bulletproof by Tim Anderson interesting - well, you'll definitely find it interesting, but you might also find it useful.
Not exactly sure why it jumps to mind, but you...
Strong stuff, Pol, thanks for sharing and inspiring, as always.
The rest of you whining bozos, it's like you've never read one of Steve's posts...
I think part of the "problem", if you want...
I'd recommend an email to Geoff Neupert, he has experience training Div I volleyball players. Even married one!
Damn good stuff, thanks for sharing.
My worst injury to date - still persistent, 6+ months and counting - would be a good cautionary tale for the over 40 crowd. We got a big shipment in at work, and I jumped into the back of the truck...
Reminds me of Dan John's maxes - the sorta max, the max and the all out grind till you almost die max (paraphrasing each, can't remember exactly what he calls them).
The point is, for many...
How many beers did that get you in Mexico?
In my current state, I would either break my neck or my tailbone.
Thanks for that thorough and informative response, Steve.
Nice job.
I don't know if you've ever thought about it, but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on how GS training has affected other activities/strengths versus HS training. I know GS...
What if it simply means they found a more effective drug or cocktail?
That's the argument (to me, at least) for not just allowing PEDs - at some point, you have to wonder if it's just the...
In my limited experience, it certainly can. Nothing can replace the wisdom gained through aging and experiencing - not just experiencing, but aging AND experiencing.
Can't speak for anyone else,...
I believe there are software programs that will convert pdf's to other formats for e-readers. I vaguely recall one someone mentioned called Caliber.
Googled it, it's actually called Calibre. Don't...
Thanks for posting the link, Steve, it's been too long since I've read Max's blog.
In many ways, my 45 years has been the exact opposite of Max's. His way is better.
Get-ups. That's partly why they're paired with swings in the PM.
Pavel's Hit The Deck program would seem to be in order. He also describes another program in Beyond Bodybuilding that would likely work wonders.
Your updates are always welcomed, but this one was one of your best, at least in the couple years I've been following.
I had knee reconstruction (ACL) 8 years ago. About 4 weeks after my surgery I was still walking with a limp. It wasn't intentional, it just happened. My PT noticed, said I shouldn't be doing that. So...
There is no sarcasm in Josef's posts. What you see as "stir the pot" is just him looking to question assumptions and long held beliefs in the pursuit of goals. That's what has driven progress in...
Two words: assumed risk.
Pathetic move by Rocco.
Just thought I'd update this.
I did PT in Feb and March, didn't seem to do much. Did a 5 day cycle of some steroid at the beginning of March, that helped a lot - lessened the pain and tingling,...
It's not what you want to hear, but the most important thing is just to rest. That doesn't mean you have to lie in bed all day, but most everything you want to do is going to irritate your condition...
I feel kind of foolish posting after so many more experienced lifters, but I thought I'd add one small thing I've noticed in my own training (as a 45 year old, and I think that is important to note,...
This reminds me of a chapter in Dan John's book Never Let Go, it was called something like "The Warmup Is The Workout". I've never really understood it, no matter how many times I've read it.
Nice, well said.
So many people now (and probably before as well) just don't ask themselves questions about things they read or hear anywhere. That's one thing my dad - an academic physician...
You guys are more dedicated than this 45 year old...but that's not saying much, so don't feel too proud.
I don't plan anything consciously on rest days - and I plan for 2-4 a week - but I usually...
If you're asking the question, you should probably start with the easy day.
