Actually quite different. In Dan John's chest supported row holds, you are simply holding the weight as high as possible. This is a completely different kind of isometric. In this exercise you are pulling into a range of motion that you don't currently possess. I go over it in the post how this is referred to as an overcoming isometric rather than a yielding isometric. Having done both, I have found this method to be far superior.
cool! I am definitely novice at kettlebells and I am having the most difficult time keeping my chest lifted when doing the swing even though it's something I practiced in yoga and martial arts for years. Will try this exercise out! Now where is my white belt?
