Lateral Shoulder Pain from Rack Holds??

Hi all,

I've been having a few clients complain of pain on the lateral sides of their arms right in the "cut" between the deltoid and biceps from holding the kettlebell in the rack position. For some it is to the point where raising the arms out to the sides more than 90 degrees causes pain. I believe the cause is pushing out too much with the elbow while holding the kettlebell in the rack position, but was wondering if you or any of your clients have run into this problem, or have any suggestions for corrective or rehab drills?

Thanks!
Dan

That's a pretty serious problem. Sounds like something is wrong with their fundamental technique; corrective/rehab should not be needed due to rack holds. Is this GS type tack position and bells? If not, for what purpose are they practicing rack holds? There should be very little if any "pushing out of the elbows" in this position. If you can post photo/video, that would be helpful.
