Not feeling to good

I have been doing easy recovery work around 3 weeks - like mobility and stretching and gtging my kb military presses and goblet squats alternating everyday with kb swings and light snatches. For some inexplicable reason I just feel real crappy. My upper hip and leg has an annoying dull ache and minor lower back ache. I am almost 100% certain its ITBS. It could have come about from my old mattress or how I sleep on it. Or from my 5 year old recliner chair. Who knows. But all training is on hold except for mobility drills. My diet is still IF and still doing cold showers. Body fat still dropping. Could also just be from my age. My have to rethink how I move forward after I heal up. But I will have my yearly physical in a few months and see what the Doc has to say...Dennis

For a few days now I have resorted to sleeping on the floor. During the day I also rest on my back and roll slowly from side to side. Mild stretches. I believe the bed/mattress was the main culprit. I have experienced more solid sleep and I know how important that is all big picture wise. I sense I am healing. My "bed" now is a yoga mat covered by a small bed sheet. Then a quilt throw on top. Pillows. Finally a light blanket. I am going to stay at this for awhile and maybe later decide on a more Japanesey type - futon - I believe. I told my sister if I start walking around the house in a kimono and a man-bun, or doing tea cermomies, or clipping/manicuring bonsai trees, then to just go ahead and do an intervention...heheheheh!!!...Dennis

I am doing better, but not all the way there yet. Still have limited ROM with right leg. Mostly walking and light stretching. In addition to my leg problem i also had 2 weeks of the flu. No appettite and lost too much weight. Was unable to smell or taste food for days. Even my desire for a nightly whisky was quashed. I will say that floor sleeping has done me alot of good. Hope to begin again in a few weeks. Oh and thanks for asking...Dennis

It's funny that you mention the flu. After reading your post, I was thinking you may have a virus or some other bug. Normally after reading a post like yours, I would have thought improper technique, but I know that's not the issue in your case. Sounds like you may have decided it was your mattress. Anyway, glad you're on the road to recovery.

Thanks for the post. For ITBS I have found doing "monster walks" to be useful. Its using rubber resistance bands around the legs - either calves or thighs and walking wide legged like a monster. The discomfort/pain has greatly subsided since I do these 2x/day...Dennis

The ITBS problem has apparently healed. No discomfort/pain in hip or knee (right side). Monster Walks and body weight squats with rubber assistance bands around the knees seemed to do the trick. Along with giving it time to heal. My next project is to work the program from the book THE HARDSTYLE KETTLEBELL CHALLENGE. Based around TGUs, Swings and Goblet squats. Movement improvement is my nr1 objective. Will also throw in 20-30 minute walk/jog from time to time...Dennis

Big thumbs up to your post. I'm 54 and have been deadlifting consistently for about a year. I figure when I feel I can't DL anymore, I'll switch to Pavel's S&S and or DJ kettle programs.
